A BOOT CD is a completely self contained operating system that resides on the CD and DOES NOT ALTER YOUR HARD DISK IN ANY WAY. It will boot up and independently allow you to access your files regardless of the state of the operating system on your hard disk.

Some notes on data recovery.

If you have a spare hard disk, the simplest way to save your data is to put the second drive in the computer and use this Boot CD to take all the data you want to save off of the affected drive or system and transfer it the spare drive, then remove the spare, leaving the original to be erased and reinstalled.

**The reason for this is discussed below and is caused by the cd not being setup as the boot device.
Before you try to use a boot cd remember that you need to make sure your system is setup to boot from a CD some brief instructions follow (but all systems vary slightly)




Many BIOSes have the capability to boot from CD-ROM but aren't configured for it.
In this case you might need to restart the PC and enter BIOS setup or BIOS features by pressing Delete or another hardware-specific key on start-up.
When you configure the boot medium remember that it doesn't have to be the CD-ROM exclusively or even first .. it's fine to sequence a floppy drive before the CD-ROM.
All you need is to ensure that the CD-ROM is present as a recognized boot source.
Save the new configuration and you should be ready to start.

RESCUING DATA FILES
Usually the first problem is to be able to take the data off of the hard disk that has the issues. onto a new hard disk or burn them to a CD or DVD
Failing that you can copy the files you need to a USB key - thumb drive or what ever you like to call it!

THIS BOOT CD WILL NOT WRITE ANY DATA TO YOUR HARD DISK SO YOUR DATA IS SAFE
This is important as any other boot cd that writes to your hard disk will destroy the data on your hard disk!!
If the PC boots from CD-ROM just put the cd in and you should have a recognizable useful windows type interface in a few minutes.

Do not buy a download if you are a dial up modem user as the iso file is just too big.
